Who this is for
Android users who need to install JouleBug outside of the Google Play Store
Participants in company initiatives where the app is distributed directly
Before you begin
Your device must be running Android 6.0 or higher
Make sure you’ve downloaded the JouleBug APK file to your device
You’ll need access to your device’s Settings and File Manager
Contact your organization administrator to obtain the official APK file
Security note: Only install APK files from trusted sources. Always use the file provided by your organization.
Step 1: Allow your File Manager to install APKs
To install an APK, your device must allow apps from unknown sources.
Open Settings on your phone
Tap Apps
Tap Special app access
This may be under a More option or a menu depending on your device
Tap Install unknown apps
Find and tap your File Manager app
Turn on Allow from this source
Step 2: Rename the file and install it
In some cases, the downloaded JouleBug file may be missing the .apk extension. You’ll need to add it before installing.
Open your File Manager app
Go to the Downloads folder
Find your file (example:
JB Android 7.4.7 26040900)Long-press the file (hold your finger on it for 1–2 seconds)
Tap Rename
This may be under a three-dot menu on some devices
Add
.apkto the end of the file nameBefore:
JB Android 7.4.7 26040900After:
JB Android 7.4.7 26040900.apk
Tap OK or Confirm
If prompted with a warning about changing the file type, tap Yes
Tap the renamed file once
Tap Install on the popup
Wait for the installation to complete
Tap Open to launch the app, or Done to exit
What happens next
Once installed, you can open JouleBug and sign in or create an account to start participating.
