When you're joining a challenge, you may notice that JouleBug offers two distinct types: Competitive and Goals Based. These challenge types determine your main objective for the challenge and can influence how you play the game. Read on to learn the differences and where to focus for each.

Competitive

In this classic challenge setup, individuals or teams are competing to get to the top of the leaderboard. The more points you earn the better! In this challenge type, you’ll just see a standard leaderboard and your main objective is to earn more points for yourself or your team.

Goals Challenge

In a goals challenge the idea is to reach the goal your administrators have set. This could be a Challenge goal – that all participants will play to reach together, an Individual goal – that participants will play to reach for themselves, or a Team goal - that team members will work together to meet. You’ll see a goal bar across the top of the standard leaderboard that helps you track this progress. Your main objective in this type of challenge is to hit the set goal! Some challenges may have multiple goals and there’s still a standard leaderboard in this challenge type so even if you complete all goals, keep taking actions and logging to see how far you can get!
